    Eligibility

APS1 officer roles are open to all Australian citizens.

APS1 roles are entry level positions and the work at this level is most suitable for someone looking to start their career.

    Recruitment process

APS1 positions attract a large number of candidates. In order to ensure we choose candidates with the right fit for our organisation, we take candidates through a number of steps within the recruitment process.

Some of the stages that candidates might go through include:

    • a series of questions as part of the application which look at the way candidates work and how that fits with the organisation
    • online testing that tests candidate skills in competencies such as learning ability, customer focus and achievement orientation
    • a face-to-face assessment in which the candidate is asked a series of questions and may be asked to complete a research task or further testing.

    Training

You will undergo a comprehensive corporate induction which introduces you to the ATO environment, the work and its people. You will also receive training for the role you are being asked to perform. This may be in a formal setting or on-the-job. In addition, you will be able to undertake self-paced training and development using our online learning system.

    Apply

APS1 positions may be advertised as a national campaign or in specific sites throughout the year and will appear on the ATO careers website(external link).

The recruitment process was faster than positions in other agencies I had applied for, making the process a nice change and allowed me to start my new job faster than expected. I believe I have chosen an agency that can offer me excellent career prospects.

    Anthony Dainer

I have received very high levels of support and training, which I am very appreciative of, especially with the workload for which my team is responsible. I feel that there is a good work/life balance and I would like to see myself in the ATO for years to come.
